I want to go to there.....

What if our schools looked like this:

This is school in Paris, France designed by Palatre and Leclere. Here is the website with some more fun pictures and information.

What if our schools looked like this? Wouldn't you be excited to go to class every day? All this talk about needing to change the way we educate our students needs to include changing our school spaces as well. I have noticed a change from the traditional desks set in rows to more group seating, but this is hardly enough. Schools need to be more warm and inviting. They need to be more colorful and fun. They need to inspire and engage our students. We need more spaces that children want to explore and investigate. I know many of us will be working with limited budgets, but look at what just adding some color does to a school. This school wouldn't be nearly so exciting if it weren't so colorful. What can you do to change up your traditional classroom space?

  1. I want to go there, too! What fun! This school reminds me of a Dr. Seuss book. What a neat way to spark imagination and curiosity. Color ....

  2. There are many differences between the classroom spaces at my main placement and dyad placement. I wish all students had the amenities that the students at the dyad placement have. I have come to realize though, as teachers we should use the resources available to us as imaginatively and creatively as we can.

  3. I'll go too!! I have always, half joking, threatened to take a can of yellow paint to some of our elementary schools. We teach about colors starting from the moment our children enter school. Every home improvement show talks about adding/changing colors to freshen a room and/or change your perspective. But here in a town where it rains a lot. Where it is dark (unless it is summer)our schools are dull and drab: shades of brown and gray. And what is that odd shade of blue/green? We need fun happy colors that make us all smile and feel good about the day! After all, we are in school for 6-8 hours a day.
